A hypothetical scenario
of a military raid against a terrorist training camp in PoK
1
Satellites, reconnaissance aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles
and thermal imaging cameras, are all sources of intelligence
to mount the operation.
2
Ground troops cross the LoC through unmonitored entry points
and move along uninhabited routes.
3 Two-three
km from the terrorist camps, the seek-and-destroy mission
sets up a base camp to operate from.
4
Indian aircraft use Electronic Counter Measures (ECMs) to
jam the radar frequencies of the Pakistanis and Electronic
Counter-Counter Measures (ECCMs) as they respond with radar
techniques.
5
Bofors and other artillery guns are moved forward to bombard
the area between the camps and Brigade HQ to pin them down.
6
The raiding party launches attack with small arms.
7
In case the Pakistani Air Force responds to the Indian ground
attack, IAF planes give aerial protection to Indian troops. They
also abet in interdictionary measures by bombing the area
to prevent Pakistani infantry from coming to the rescue of
the terrorists and attacking the Indian raiding party.
8 Diversionary
fire, troop movements or different routes are taken for the
raiding party to return.
IN RED CIRCLE: Terrorist
Camps are at least 40 km away from the range of Indian artillery
Logistical Support:
Ammunition, petrol, rations are stored here
Brigade HQ:
Anti-aircraft guns, missiles, fire control and communications
One Battalion is on
alert to repulse attacks from Indian positions
One Company guards
the LoC
Indian helicopters
are kept ready for relief and rescue operations in case of
casualties
The raiding party
would be carrying INSAS 5.56-mm assault rifles, LMGs, rocket
launchers, night-vision devices and radio sets
