The Other
Festival-India's international festival of arts-returns for the fourth
successive year from December 1 to 7 at The Museum Theatre, Chennai. The
evenings will feature short performances in Tamil theatre in honour of
N. Muthuswamy. Performances in music, dance, theatre and art start at
7 p.m. The highlights: Theatre director Neelam Man Singh Chowdhry's "An
Unposted Love Letter", a bilingual in English and Punjabi adapted
from a collection of short stories by Doris Lessing; Susanne Kirchner's
solo "Dance Sculpture"; "Oikyotaan", folk repertoire
from Bangladesh & West Bengal with an ensemble of sounds and textures
by Bonnie Chakraborty and his music group, among others. Entry free.

Tales of Krishna

victory over demons. The life of Krishna is a fascinating balance of emotions
and intellect. This tale is narrated by Padmabhushan Mrinalini Sarabhai,
the celebrated dancer and choreographer in a pictorial book Krishna, The

MUSIC
Strains of Sufiism
The Sufi influence in Baba Bulleh Shah's (1680) poetry is unmistakable
and pervades current-day music as well. Times Music has come out with
Abida: Baba Bulleh Shah, the first time Sufi singer Abida Parveen has
dedicated an entire album to Shah's poetry. The music arrangement is by
Bhavdeep Jaipurwale. The CD costs Rs 295 and cassette Rs 75.
