Hunters' Heritage

Sariska Palace was built at the close of the 19th century by Maharaja Jai Singh of Alwar. This palace was originally a royal hunting lodge. Conveniently located 199 km from Delhi and 120 km from Jaipur, Sariska Palace is today a palace hotel. Not far from it is the Kuchaman Fort, also a heritage hotel. This one-time Rajput stronghold is set on a sheer-rock cliff in Nagaur district, 130 km from Jaipur. The Sariska Group of Hotels has come out with a special package worth Rs 3,500 per couple per night. The package is for both palaces, and can be booked from Delhi till December 30, 2001. Meeting and Parting

Virah Milan-as the title would suggest-is an expression of the emotions that meeting and parting engender. The sense of distress at separation and happiness in romantic togetherness are captured by Shivanand Patil in the album Classic Masterpieces (HMV, Rs 50). Patil has rendered four ragas-Bilasakhani Todi, Madhuvanti, Chandrakauns and Bageshree-and in so doing developed them in the traditions of the Kirana and Gwalior gharanas.

Jamavar, an Indian restaurant featuring both north and south Indian cuisine at the five-star deluxe The Leela Palace is the latest upmarket eatery in Bangalore. Attractions include salmon ke kebab, murg methi malai and lobster neerulli. Jamavar is a weaving pattern originally woven with fibres drawn from mountain sheep. The teardrop pattern developed in Kashmir was adapted by the French and took the name of the city where it was developed-Paisley. Average meal for two: Rs 1,000.
