Thousands
of people lost their houses when the earthquake hit Gujarat a year ago.
Reconstruction is a slow process, but with the help of generous readers,
care today's project of constructing 450 houses will be completed by October
this year. Seventeen families have already moved into new two-roomed homes
built by care today, and work on 208 others in the Paccham region of Bhuj
is on. We received Rs 3.45 crore in contributions. We have disbursed Rs
1.24 crore of the Rs 2.36 crore earmarked for programmes like sending
an emergency medical team, a school library, financial assistance to the
worst-affected and building houses in collaboration with the Kutch Mahila
Vikas Sangathan. We are considering other schemes, like homes for people
rendered paraplegic that would take into account their special needs.
