CINEMA Indo-British Partnership Film Festival An impressive line-up of such award-winning and successful contemporary British films as Richard III, Mrs Brown, Fever Pitch, Land and Freedom and the Wallace and Gromit trilogy. This festival promises to be a cinematic treat. MUSIC 5th Qutub Festival A perfect setting for a royal concert -- the Qutub Minar. In a festival that celebrates Indian musical tradition and classical dance, there's Odissi performed by Madhvi Mudgal, Kathak by Uma Sharma, Shiv Kumar Sharma on the santoor and Hari Prasad Chaurasia on the flute. Here's one event not to be missed. ART Enduring Images: Treasures from the British Musuem A mega event organised by the British Council to mark India's 50 years of Independence, the exhibition showcases 300 works of priceless art from the British Museum, London. The theme of figurative art is historically and globally explored. Artefacts range from late Ice Age to Renaissance portaiture and ancient Indian sculpture. 50 Years of Art in Mumbai An exhibition of paintings, sculptures and prints, by artists living in Mumbai during the past 50 years. Over 200 works, by as many as 160 artists, provide a holistic view of the different developments that have added variety and vibrancy to the art scene in Mumbai and also unfold the various phases in the artists' progress towards modernity. India: A Celebration of Independence, 1947-1997 Organised by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, this major travelling photography exhibition displays the works of emerging and established lensmen, including Henri-Cartier Bresson, Sebastian Salgado, Sunil Janah and Raghu Rai. The images capture the rich variety of India's geography, culture and its people. |
