Comic Strip
Salman KhanNothing to lose your shirt about, but
Salman Khan created a stir in London the other day. At a Bollywood stage show at Wembley where Amitabh Bachchan, Tabu and some others also performed, Khan did a well-rehearsed semi-striptease. First he did what he often does these days: flung off his shirt. Then he vanished behind some dancers and took off the rest, stopping just short of his shorts. While Khan is off now shooting abroad, let the record show that not everyone, especially the older lot, was amused. Comments ranged from "he went too far" to "he's got skinny legs". Enough to make a man lose his shirt.

Ramesh Sharma and Shailendra PradhanA Prayer for Our Players
Anything to get noticed. Last week, two former BJP MLAs from Bhopal, Ramesh Sharma and Shailendra Pradhan, performed a yagna for India's World Cup cricket team. Politicians are rarely short of idols. These two put a bat and stumps in place of the usual deities. Said Pradhan who was denied a ticket in the last election: "It was not a religious act, but a display of our sentiments." A display. Period. Will cricket fetch a ticket?

Ramesh Sharma and Shailendra PradhanNo Go
After Aamir Khan, it's Govinda's turn to boycott film awards. Forever the choice to dance at these shows, never the Best Actor winner, he now rants: "In so many years, I've realised that awards are obviously manipulated ... Next time, agar mujhe suit karega, to hi main suit pehnoonga (I'll go only if it suits me)." A Best Comedian Award for Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan earlier this year was the last straw. By the same logic, he asked, shouldn't Shah Rukh Khan have been Best Villain in Baazigar? Arre miyan, answer him. Sophiya Haque

Shake A Leg
Helen may have danced off our movie screens, but Sophiya Haque is slithering in. With her job in Channel V on shaky ground, the sure- footed veejay has entered a new leg of her career. In the Sanjay Dutt-starrer Khubsoorat, Sophiya does a jig and shows off some leg in what's her first appearance in a Hindi film. "I can only do dance numbers," the lady explains matter-of-factly. "I cannot speak the language, so I have to do roles where I do not speak." Now it can be told, all very PC. Garrulous veejay turns dumb belle.
