MUSIC

Saat Rang Ke Sapne
(T-series; Rs 38)
Before you get down to listening to this album, hear the buzz surrounding it. The cassettes of Priyadarshan's film, Saat Rang Ke Sapne, bear no credit for music direction. Why? Producers ABCL say that's been done because composers Nadeem-Shravan are too much in the public eye. The grapevine says T-Series is behind this entire name-deletion affair. The music, by the way, is sweet.

The Bible
(Venus; Rs 90)
The greatest story ever told is presented here in a two-cassette set. While the recognisable names in the credits include actor Tom Alter as Jesus Christ and Sharon Prabhakar among the clutch of soloists, the package as a whole is impressive. You don't have to be religious to buy this one.

Lakshmi-Narayana Global Music Festival
(Chennai, Calcutta, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kollam; January 21 -29)
To be held in six Indian cities starting January 21, the festival includes violin maestro Yehudi Menuhin, violinist Arve Tellefsen from Denmark, pianist Christian Eggen and folk singer Sinikka Langeland of Norway, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and Kaunas State Choir and, of course, L. Subramaniam. Menuhin, though, will perform only in Delhi and Calcutta. A pity.

ART

Raja Ravi Varma, Amrita Sher-Gill Restored
(National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi; January 9 to February 1)
The wonders that can be worked by expert restorers are in evidence at this show. On display are works by the two legends of Indian art -- from private and NGMA collections -- that have been restored through the efforts of NGMA and INTACH. Check it out.

The Complete Untitled Film Stills -- Cindy Sherman
(National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi; January 16 to February 8)
This land-mark body of work forms an imaginative and ruminative catalogue of feminine roles from films of the 1940s-'60s -- the sophisticate, the sex kitten, and so on. Sherman chose to underline the stereotypes by being her own model. A unique show.

FASHION

Fashion Spectrum '98
(National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi; January 22-25 )
NIFT is organising a four-day extravaganza as a celebration of its influential presence in the fashion industry. Events include fashion shows, crafts melas, seminars and conferences to highlight the developments in this highly competitive sector.
