Pen and Ink Drawings--Amole Gupte
(Prithvi Gallery, Mumbai; Sept 27-Oct 11)

With an eye for detail, an element of the bizarre, a virgin perspective of the mundane, Amole Gupte's images become metaphorical stories. Once an assistant film director, he turned to drawing and writing three years ago. Gupte's show includes prints done as title graphics for the film Hazaar Chaurasi ki Maa. The proceeds will go to author Mahasweta Devi's cause for tribals.

Photo Exhibition on Wood-Carving Traditions of Kumaon
(IIC, Delhi; Sept 23-29)

Traditional woodwork of the Kumaon region in Uttar Pradesh is a fast disappearing part of India's heritage. This exhibition is an attempt at resurrecting this dying art form. Anup Sah's photographs vividly capture the exquisiteness of this little-known craft. An enriching experience for art lovers.

It's a fitting tribute to Le Corbusier at his best architectural marvel -- Chandigarh. Organised by the Alliance Francaise, the fourth edition of this annual cinematic feast is on a bigger scale: nine long movies and 26 short movies. It's time for the Balle balle crowd to say, "C'est la vie!"
