A Couple of Weddings It's a first for her. He's been
second-time lucky. Here's more news on the hush-hush wedding of Bharatnatyam dancer Alarmel
Valli and ex-I&B secretary Bhaskar Ghose. She's 40, he's
60-plus, and they tied the knot at a temple on November 30, followed by a ceremony at
Valli's home on December 9. "For a while I'll be partly in Chennai, partly with
him," she says. "We haven't decided all those things." Imagine their vows
... in sickness and in health, in Delhi and Chennai ...
Mumbai's who's who were all there. But the stars
were in the eyes of model-veejay Malaika Arora and Salman Khan's actor
brother Arbaaz Khan, when they walked down the aisle last week. It was a
pleasant cocktail: church wedding and nikah. Now Malaika is on leave from MTV till
end-December. "Since we spent so much time doing up our flat, we're honeymooning
here," says the groom. Adds Salim, the typical papa: "One headache is over. Now
only Salman is left but I'm sure he'll get married by end-'99." Buck up, son.
Face Off
Emotionally he's 17, in reality he's
53, but in this film he's a 105-year-old NRI in search of a magic potion that promises
eternal youth. Tinnu Anand, director of the recent Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Major Saab, is
playing a centenarian in a yet-to-be-titled Telugu film. Take a look. That's the real face
of Tinnu on the left, and Tinnu with makeup on the right. The experience "was
painful", says the man who has also acted in Pushpak, Damini and China Gate. "It
would take me four hours to get made up." It took ages, so to speak.
Not Done Yet
Fifty and Done? Odd name for a book. Especially
when the author is pretty young actress and ex-veejay Tara Deshpande. But don't worry.
She's not retiring. This is just a set of 12 short stories and 38 poems, all of which adds
up to 50. It took a year to write, and HarperCollins is releasing it in March. "In
the middle of a novel, I got the urge to write verse," says the star of the
soon-to-be-out Bombay Boys and a bilingual called India Today opposite Mammooty. Also
coming up: the novel. Obviously, she's not done yet.
