Q&A: Madhuri Dixit
Her latest film, Aarzoo (co-starring Akshay
Kumar and Saif Ali Khan) is just out. But there's more on Ms Dixit's mind: Akshay? Saif? Don't you deserve better?
That's like asking Anil Kapoor when he did Tezaab, "Don't you deserve better
than Madhuri Dixit?"
Zindagi mein sabsi badi aarzoo kya hain (What
is your greatest desire)?
Sabse badi aarzoo yeh hai that I get good roles.
Do you think you're finished?
Not quite. (laughs) Not yet. Though every time there's a success people
say, "Oh she's back", when there's a flop they say, "Oh she's gone,"
and if I ever decide to stop they'll say, "Oh no, don't go away." I can almost
see it.
Are they already asking you to play mom?
No, but early in my career I played my own mother.
But something like Saif's mother?
No (laughs), that would be ridiculous.
Any jibes in the press that really bugged you?
After Abodh, one journalist wrote: "She's not heroine material."
I was like, "What! I'll show you."
And you did?
And I did.
On the Move
Model, savvy self-publicist, Channel V veejay: Meghna Reddy
carries all these jobs with equal glee on her slim shoulders. She even did a modelling
stint in Paris once, remember? But since enough is never enough for the Reddy babe, she's
off to the Big Apple to do a course in filmmaking from New York University. Why on earth?
"Don't you think people are tired of seeing me in front of the camera?" she
responds. Want the truth?
Hunting them Down

"I feel like a wild creature so gun me down," growled a contestant.
"These 35 wild things are bred for success," purred the compere. Two of them, Anchal
Kumar and John Abraham, got a little more of it than the rest.
At the Glad Rags Mega Model & Manhunt -- India's raciest, raunchiest
"beauty" contest -- in Mumbai last week, favourites Kumar and Abraham catwalked
their way past the entire lot to bag the title and Rs 3 lakh worth of prizes each. Where
do they go from here? Abraham's an MBA who wants to open his own media house. Kumar has
"always dreamt of being a model". It's happening.
Hollywood se Bollywood tak
First Screen-Videocon, then Filmfare
... how different could the Zee Cine Awards be? Well, Keanu Reeves was
there. The star of Speed did the usual thing -- donned Indian attire, said he adores Ravi
Shankar's music and has seen some of Satyajit Ray's films. "We know you guys have a
big film industry, and while one doesn't easily come across mainstream Indian cinema in
LA, I do hope to meet some guys this time." Then he did an unusual thing: he took the
stage with his three-member band Dogstar. Did he wow the crowd? One word. No. But yes, it
was different. |
