Travelling Statesman

Gurmant Singh GrewalAs an eight-year-old he shook hands with a visiting US vice-president in his village in Ludhiana district. Now at 41, as a Canadian MP, Gurmant Singh Grewal routinely rubs shoulders with world leaders. Grewal created a record of sorts in Canada when he took just four years after immigrating to enter Parliament. Last week he was in India as part of a three-member delegation to the subcontinent: "I'm here to break the ice in Indo-Canadian ties that got frozen after last year's nuclear blasts." Ice? What ice? The warm welcome he got would melt a glacier.

Daljit DhaliwalPeople's Choice
It's not what she set out to do, but journalist Daljit Dhaliwal is on People magazine's list of the world's most beautiful people: No. 37 to Michelle Pfeiffer's No. 1. Hollywood star she is not, but Dhaliwal's ITN World News is seen on 40 TV stations across America, and last year when she had a haircut, a newspaper ran a story about how men in the US wept. Dhaliwal, 36, one-time anchor of BBC's Asia Today and London-born daughter of Indian immigrants, shrugs: "I believe the entire programme needs to be recognised." But if the anchor's in the news, it doesn't hurt.

Mee Paresh Rawal Boltoy
Looks like it's Paresh Rawal's lot to play the
Paresh Rawalfamous and the infamous. After doing the role of Vallabhbhai Patel in Sardar, and a spoof on Laloo Prasad Yadav in Dandnayak, the bad guy from Bollywood is stepping into Nathuram Godse's shoes in the Hindi version of the banned Marathi play, Mee Nathuram Godse Boltoy (I am Nathuram Godse Speaking). The play will tour the US next month. But isn't he scared of earning the wrath of those who decried it in India last year? Naah. "I do not have any political aspirations or affiliations, so I have nothing to fear from anyone." Mee Paresh Rawal boltoy.

Bipasha BasuLook Here
Bipasha Basu and Akshay Kumar are married. So are Kareena Kapoor and Bobby Deol. So far, so good. But when Bobby flips for Bipasha, the drama begins. Take this for what it is, folks: a movie script. The film directed by Abbas-Mastan marks hot-shot model Bipasha's Hindi film debut. Producer Vijay Galani picked the former Supermodel of the World winner, best-known for her Calida panties ad, after screentesting "almost all the top models". Says Galani: "She has the right look and attitude for the role." She has the right look for anything, buddy.
